What is a Temporary Use Permit?

For a use not permitted by zoning, the Local Government Act allows a local government to issue a temporary use permit to (a) allow a use not permitted by a zoning bylaw; (b)specify conditions under which the temporary use may be carried on; and, (c) allow and regulate the construction of buildings or structures in respect of the use for which the permit is issued.

How long may a Temporary Use Permit allow a use?

Under the Local Government Act, a Temporary Use Permit may expire either the date established by a local government or three years, whichever is earlier.
