Zero Carbon Step Code: An Introduction This presentation covers the Zero Carbon Step Code coming into effect under the BC Building Code on May 1, 2023. In this presentation we cover why the standard exists, what it is, and what implementation could look like. The information in this presentation was provided by the Building and Safety Standards Branch of British Columbia (BSSB). Community Energy Association - What is the BC Energy Step Code? Whether you are an elected official, a builder or a tradesperson, it's important you know what the BC Energy Step Code is, and how the Province of BC is supporting the transition to net zero ready new building construction. The BC Energy Step Code is an optional compliance path in the BC Building Code that local governments may use, if they wish, to incentivize or require a level of energy efficiency in new construction that goes above and beyond the requirements of the BC Building Code.

These include potential adoption of the Zero Carbon Step Code, and/or higher levels of the BC Energy Step Code. Potential barriers, supports and incentives will also be discussed.
