Acting for Climate Together

The City of Nanaimo and Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) are seeking local neighborhood teams to sign up as volunteers for the newly launched Acting for Climate Together (ACT) initiative. The ACT initiative hopes to inspire, educate and encourage existing groups (such as neighbourhood associations, community groups, sports teams and businesses) and individuals looking to form new groups to work together to take action. To participate, teams will complete suggested actions that are organized under six climate categories. When groups complete enough actions to earn the minimum points required for that category, they are awarded climate action badges and a chance to win fun, sustainable prizes.

Participants will receive support and guidance through a volunteer kick-off event. During the event, participants will review the ACT Toolkit to help choose actions and make a plan to move from conversation to action. With the help of the toolkit, participants will identify specific climate actions related to reducing emissions, building community resiliency, and improving to the overall well-being of our communities.

Participants will meet with City of Nanaimo/RDN staff on a recurring basis to discuss their neighbourhood projects and receive feedback and support.

  • To attend the Kick-off Event, applications must be submitted by February 17, 2023.
  • Applications will be accepted until the maximum number of spots are filled (15)

• Submit your questions using the Q&A tool below and check the FAQ's section which will be updated regularly based on the questions asked.
• Once your team is signed up for ACT, share your team's successes, including your completed actions and Big Action Project ideas below.
