The Departure Bay Forcemain was constructed in 1974 and conveys wastewater from the Departure Bay Pump Station on Departure Bay Road to the Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Centre on Hammond Bay Road. It carries wastewater from over half of the population in Nanaimo and is the largest of all forcemains operated by the RDN. A section near Meadow Lane Road, Kite Way, and Planta Road is corroded and must be replaced.
