Work Notice - Trail Decommissioning

After delaying the project to allow the Great Blue Herons to fledge from their nest, work is underway this week to close some trails in the Nature Preserve, as per the 2024 Management Plan. Split rail fencing will be installed at 5 locations, with other trails being closed with signage and restoration work. Two new Welcome signs will also be installed, which include a map that shows the designated recreational trails in the property.
The work will be underway between October 19 and 23, 2026. Please avoid areas where crews are working. All project inquiries can be directed to the RDN Parks Office.
We understand that some of these trails will be missed, and invite the community's participation in staying on the designated trails and supporting the multi-year restoration work that will be underway here. Estuaries are unique and highly biodiverse places, offering food, shelter and resting sites for many animals, including migratory birds and salmon.
