Budget 2027 Consultation Report – Recommends the Province Advance the Nanaimo General Hospital Expansion

On August 12, 2026, the Government of British Columbia’s Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services released its Report on the Budget 2027 Consultation. The report summarizes input received during the public consultation period and provides recommendations for the Government of British Columbia to consider in the development of Budget 2027.

On June 19, 2026, Janice Perrino, Chair of the Nanaimo Regional Hospital District, appeared before the Committee to recommend that the Province advance the patient tower and cardiac catheterization laboratory projects at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital to the business planning stage once the concept plan is complete. The concept planning work is anticipated to be completed by Summary 2027.

The NRHD appreciates the Committee’s recognition of this important regional priority and its formal recommendation that the Province advance the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital expansion. In the Health section of the report, the Committee noted projects that received a high volume of public input, including the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital expansion, and affirmed the importance of the proposed cardiac catheterization laboratory and new patient care tower.
