The RDN is currently looking for your input on temporary use permit application PL2022-182.

820 Corcan Road, Electoral Area H

The RDN has received a temporary use permit amendment for the properties legally described as Lot 9, District Lot 90, Newcastle District, Plan 36719, Except that Part in Plans 39792 VIP57498 and EPP62828. The subject property is currently zoned Agriculture 1 Subdivision District B (AG1B) (see Document Library), which allows Farm Use with a minimum parcel size of 8.0 hectares. The subject property is located in the Agricultural Land Reserve, a provincial land use zone which prioritizes the use of the land for agricultural purposes.

The applicant has obtained approval from the Agricultural Land Commission (ALC) to allow the subject property to be used for temporary farm work housing. The approval limits the temporary farm worker housing to a maximum of 77 workers to be housed in 11 movable and manufactured housing units. The ALC has included a number of conditions of approval, which in summary include:

  • each unit would provide housing to a maximum of seven workers;
  • housing units are limited to providing housing to temporary farm workers only;
  • financial security submitted to the ALC in an amount sufficient to remove the units;
  • the housing is required to be removed should the farm cease operations; and,
  • the approval is not transferable to any other operator.

As the proposal has been approved by the ALC, a Temporary Use Permit is required as the proposal is not currently permitted by the AG1 zone.

The proposal is to permit temporary farm worker housing in support of an existing raspberry farm operation.
