Learn about our budget process and ask questions. We will be providing updated documents as they become available to help you understand how your tax dollars are spent at the RDN.

  • 2021-2025 Preliminary Budget Next Steps

    Thank you to those that took the time to learn more about the RDN budget process, who asked questions and shared their priorities. The next step is the 2021-2025 Preliminary Budget will be presented to the RDN Committee of the Whole on November 24, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.

    We want to hear your thoughts on your priorities for the RDN Board to consider in the 2021-2025 budget. Submit your input here by September 18, 2020.

    The 2021-2025 Preliminary Budget is currently under development and will be presented to the Committee of the Whole at the November 24, 2020 meeting and further consideration will occur at the RDN Board meeting on December 8, 2020. The Final 2021-2025 Budget will be presented in February 2021.

    You can also see our video for an overview of how regional budgeting works at the RDN and visit our budget documents to view information on the current 2020 budget. This information is shared for each Electoral Area and municipality with the Regional District of Nanaimo.

  • RDN Receives the Canadian Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting for Third Year

    The Regional District of Nanaimo was honoured to received the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting for 2018 from the Government Finance Officers Association. This award was received for our Annual Financial Report for the Year Ended December 31, 2018.

    The 2020 to 2024 RDN Financial Plan has been approved by the RDN Board at their February 25, 2020 meeting.

    The 2020 Proposed Budget was presented to the Committee of the Whole at the November 26, 2019 meeting and further considered at the RDN Board meeting on December 10, 2019 and approved for public consultation.

    If you are interested in what was included in the agenda or what was presented at the meeting please visit the budget documents to view the proposed 2020 budget information. The Proposed 2020 RDN Budget and Property Tax Summaries documents are presented for each Electoral Area and municipality within the Regional District of Nanaimo. These documents provide details of services for your area of where the money comes from and where the money goes.

    The 2020 Proposed Budget will be considered for approval on January 28, 2020 and the full 2020-2024 Financial Plan will be presented at future meetings in February 2020.

    We asked for your feedback on the 2019 proposed budget, and shared what we heard with our Board for their consideration before they approved it. Thank you to those that shared their thoughts.     The 2019 budget was approved at the January 22, 2019 as per the minutes. Please visit our budget documents to view the revised 2019 budget information which shows changes by each electoral area or municipality.

    The 2019 Proposed Budget was presented to the RDN Board at a special Committee of the Whole meeting on December 4, 2018. If you are interested in what was included in the agenda or what was presented at the meeting please review.

    Please visit our budget documents to view the proposed 2019 budget information. This information is shared for each Electoral Area and municipality with the Regional District of Nanaimo.

    We have now also posted a survey asking how you would like to learn about and provide input on the RDN budget in the future. Please share your thoughts with us by December 31, 2018. Be sure to register to this project to complete your survey and to receive updates on RDN budgeting in the future.
