The RDN has received a zoning amendment for the property legally described as The Easterly 60 Acres of Section 16, Range 3, Mountain District Except That Part in Plan 29404, VIP68415, VIP68636 and VIP72060. The subject property is currently zoned Agriculture 1, Subdivision District D (AG1D) (see Document Library). The AG1 zone allows Farm Use on lands within the Agricultural Land Reserve, Residential Use, Accessory Residential Uses including Home Based Business and Secondary Suite. In addition the AG1 allows the following uses accessory to Farm Use: Temporary Sawmill, Agriculture Education and

In addition the AG1 allows the following uses accessory to Farm Use: Temporary Sawmill, Agriculture Education and Research, Agri-tourism Accommodation, Production of Biological Integrated Pest Management Products and Gathering for an Event as accessory Farm. The minimum permitted parcel size is 2.0 hectares.

The proposal is to rezone a 0.55 hectare portion of the subject property to a new Comprehensive Development Zone (CD56) to permit the development of a Montessori Farm School in accordance with ALC Non-Farm Use Resolutions #174/2017 and #3/2020.

    A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 6:00pm. A virtual and in person public hearing will be held. The public may attend by joining the Zoom meeting via telephone or over the Internet via smartphone, tablet or computer. All persons who consider their interest in their property to be affected by the proposed bylaw shall be afforded an opportunity to be heard electronically or by written submission at the public hearing.     We appreciate the thoughts and concerns that participants have shared so far. We recognize that this process looks different than what the community is used to and appreciate your patience as we navigate this new tool. At the same time, we recognize that this tool offers a new and exciting opportunity to expand, improve, and modernize the way we engage with the community on development applications.


    To ensure that participants feel heard and have ample time to ask questions and share their thoughts, we will ensure that any additional information or revisions to application that are proposed to address community concerns will be posted on the Get Involved page prior to the application proceeding to the Board for consideration of 1st and 2nd reading.

    In addition, please note that you may provide input at any time after December 18th up until the public hearing by using this online engagement tool. A date has not been set for the public hearing and will not be determined unless and until the bylaw receives 1st and 2nd reading. The methods available to ask questions and provide input now will be available to you through the process until the public hearing. All input provided will be summarized and will be presented to the Board. Community feedback received after 1st and 2nd reading will be presented to the Board along with the summary of the public hearing.

    In response to the COVID-19 pandemic requirements for physical distancing and desire to support online opportunities for public feedback, a Public Information Meeting is not being held. Instead, the public is invited to provide feedback and ask questions online. The deadline for public feedback is 4:30 p.m. on December 18, 2020.
