The RDN has received a zoning amendment application for parcel 3817 Gilfillan Road in Electoral Area C. The applicant proposes to rezone the subject property from Rural 1 Zone (RU1) Subdivision District D to Rural 1 (RU1) Subdivision District F to facilitate a proposed two-lot subdivision under the “Regional District of Nanaimo Land Use and Subdivision Bylaw No. 500, 1987”.

    Thank you for your question. The subject property is zoned Rural 1 and is currently permitted to have two dwelling units and two secondary suites. If the zoning amendment is approved and the property is then subdivided, each lot would be limited to one dwelling unit and one secondary suite. The number of dwelling units permitted would not increase as a result of the zoning amendment and subdivision.
