Cedar Community Park Improvements

The need for a playground in the Cedar area has been identified by the community. The land adjacent to the Cedar Skate Park has been identified as a suitable location for the new playground.

Outdoor pickleball and basketball courts in the Cedar area, have also been identified by the community. The RDN is working with School District 68 on ways to accommodate community use of Cedar Community Secondary School lands for these amenities.

In addition to the playground and pickleball courts, a proposal to design and install a bike pump track in this area was presented to the RDN. The new bike pump track announced on August 19, 2025, is being funded through a generous donation from the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation. To learn about the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation, visit www.steviesmithlegacy.com. Construction of the pump track, by the Foundation, is anticipated to start in 2026. The RDN will manage and maintain the pump track after it has been constructed.

A draft concept plan was presented to the Electoral Area A Parks, Recreation and Culture Committee (PRCC) showing how these amenities could be integrated within the Cedar Skate Park lands and School District 68 property.

We look forward to hearing from you about the desired playground equipment for this space.

  • What amount of parking will be available and where will the access to the bump track and the pickle ball court be located?

    Sabine asked 3 months ago

Parking will be considered as park of the Cedar Village Active Transportation Network Plan.

  • Will there be toilet facilities installed for all the activities that are proposed?

    Sabine asked 3 months ago

Due to past vandalism of the washroom facilities, the RDN will look at new washroom facilities once there is an increased use of the park.

  • Are you considering putting in a bike lane around the regional side of yellowpoint especially since the new rules regarding passing bicycles? It is very unsafe piece of road way for both drivers and bike riders because of the blind spots and curvey narrow roads and very hard to give the required amount of distance need to pass safely for drivers.
