In March 2023, the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) began allowing RDN curbside collection customers to put yard waste into their green-lidded organics cart. That service level expansion applied to all single-family dwellings in the RDN and is included in your annual utility fee.
Since then, the RDN has been monitoring, listening and asking residents for their input on how curbside yard waste collection could be improved and expanded, to fit their individual needs. From the feedback received to date, there is continued support for expanded organics service.
Great job in topping up and using your carts for food waste as well as yard waste!
According to our Expanded Organics Yard Waste check-ins this spring and summer with customers at the landfill, transfer station, at community events and online, roughly two thirds of RDN residents who took the survey would like the option of an organics cart larger than 100L.
The RDN has developed an optional organics cart upsize program, which allows residents to choose to upsize their organics cart to fit their individual needs.
This survey is for RDN Curbside Collection customers only. That means your curbside carts are grey, with coloured lids and have the RDN logo on the side.
Your participation in this engagement survey is voluntary. If you decide to participate in this survey, you may withdraw at any time.
