French Creek Estuary Nature Preserve – Restoration Projects

The 2024 French Creek Estuary Nature Preserve Management Plan identifies key actions needed to protect and enhance biodiversity within the Nature Preserve. The removal of invasive species, restoration with native plants, and decommissioning of unauthorized trails are examples of some of the projects that will unfold over the coming years in the French Creek Estuary Nature Preserve.

Overview of Restoration and Trail Decommissioning Activities

Several priority restoration projects are underway throughout the French Creek Estuary Nature Preserve. Current projects include:

• Pond slope restoration
• Himalayan Blackberry and English Ivy removal at Trailhead

• Trail decommissioning and restoration (please refer to the map below for authorized trail routes).

• Yellow Flag Iris management

Protecting the Nature Preserve is a shared responsibility. You can support these efforts by:

• Staying on designated trails
• Respecting trail closures and restoration areas
• Keeping dogs under control and on leash where required
• Avoiding creating new informal trails
