We are updating our Liquid Waste Management Plan

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Liquid Waste Management Plan (LWMP) is the region's long-range plan to manage wastewater. The BC Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy regulates and provides guidelines for LWMPs, including the recommendation to review a liquid waste management plan every five to ten years. The RDN's LWMP was last amended in 2014 and is under review now.

The RDN LWMP Amendment will capture significant progress towards goals in the existing LWMP. The LWMP Amendment will:

  • update action items in the LWMP to meet the needs and values of our communities
  • update the timeline for the secondary treatment upgrade at Nanoose Bay Pollution Control Centre
  • update the list of wastewater infrastructure projects in the region and their cost estimates.

To learn more about wastewater services, the RDN Wastewater Services Home Page can be found here.

Public Engagement

The RDN will be seeking feedback from the public on the updates to the LWMP starting late spring 2022. Public engagement sessions will be announced soon. We plan to offer several virtual engagement opportunities. In-person sessions may be added as opportunities arise.
