The original two bay fire hall was constructed with cinder blocks in 1985. A third bay addition was built onto the side of the original structure in 1996.

We need your input as a property owner in the Nanaimo River Fire Protection Area.

Following the 2022 Nanaimo River Fire Protection Area Feasibility Study, publication of the What We Heard Engagement Summary Report, adoption by the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Board, scoping and estimation work undertaken, the RDN Board has approved proceeding with a formal survey to confirm community support for the construction of a purpose-built fire truck storage facility in the Nanaimo River (South Forks Rd.) area.

In September 2025, Nanaimo River Fire Protection Area property owners will receive an invitation letter with an enclosed survey via mail.

Before completing the survey we invite you to review the FAQ's, Important Links, Key Dates and Supporting Documents on this project site to help be informed.

Why This Matters

  • Survey Approval: This survey process was approved by the RDN Board in June 2025.
  • Community Feedback: A community information session was hosted by RDN Electoral Area C Director Melanson recently. This session revisited recommendations from the 2022 Nanaimo River Fire Protection Area Feasibility Study and explored outputs from the subsequent scoping and estimation project undertaken by the RDN in 2023 and 2024.

What We Heard

Residents at the community information session informally supported building a dedicated fire truck storage facility. This facility would:

  • House the fire truck.
  • Be designed for future expansion into a full secondary fire hall if the area's development and tax base grow.

Your Voice Matters

Your response to this survey will help confirm whether the RDN should move forward with the next steps.

For information on the RDN’s next steps depending on whether a majority responds to support or not support the building of a dedicated fire truck storage facility, please see the FAQ titled: Based on survey responses what will the RDN do?

Returning your completed survey

This survey is intended for registered property owners within the Nanaimo River Fire Protection Area. Surveys must be received no later than October 6, 2025. Read the Important Update: Postal Strike – Please Use Alternative Survey Submission Methods.
