We already know our region is beautiful, now we want you to show us! If you enjoy taking photos throughout the Regional District of Nanaimo, here’s your chance to share your talents.

We are hosting a photo contest, and your winning images will be selected for publication on our website, social media, public reports, promotional materials and more.

Participation is as easy as 1, 2, 3, click.

  1. Register or Sign In at Get Involved RDN to submit your photo or to vote for your favourite.
  2. Review the contest rules.
  3. Upload your image to your preferred category below.

Winning photographers will receive a gift card to a local RDN business of their choice.

Photo submissions must be made by Monday, November 30, 2020 at 11:59 p.m.

  • Contest Rules

    By submitting your photo, you are consenting to the contest rules and grant the RDN the following:

    • A royalty-free, nonexclusive right, in perpetuity, to use the submitted photograph(s) in print and online;

    • the right to scale, crop or alter the color of the submitted image(s) for publication purposes; and

    • consent to use your name in connection with the contest.


    In addition:

    • Photos must be taken within the Regional District of Nanaimo.

    • Only digital photos will be accepted. Preferred file formats include .png or .jpeg.

    • All shots must be high resolution, a minimum of 300 dpi, and a maximum file size of 8 MB. If not received in high enough quality, the photo will be disqualified.

    • Participants do not have to be RDN residents.

    • Photographers must submit a signed model release form for all identifiable people in the photos.

    • Photographers under the age of 19 must submit signed authorization to participate from a parent or legal guardian.

    • RDN staff and board members may submit photos but are not eligible for prizes.

    • Photos must not be currently held in copyright by any individual or organization, have not been used for commercial purposes and must be previously unpublished work.

    • There will be one prize awarded per submission category.

    • Each photographer can submit up to 5 images per category, but cannot collect more than 1 prize.

    • The winners of the four categories will be selected by a committee before December 8, 2020, from all eligible entries received at the submission deadline. All decisions of the committee are final. The winner will be announced on December 8, 2020.
