Meet Anna, a local artist and Sea Cadet

This is Anna. She loves creating art and really enjoys attending Sea Cadets. She has learned how to sail, how to tie a variety of knots and how to shoot a rifle among other things.

Her design was selected for the Oceanside Benchmark project and here she is creating a beautiful beach scene at SOS. Anna has been attending SOS programs for several years and now gets deliveries through the Youth Open Space program. She said she likes attending the programs because she feels very comfortable, she gets to meet new people, and enjoy new experiences. Although the pandemic has changed in-house programs to deliveries, Anna looks forward to her deliveries of crafts, activities and food from SOS.

Her mom Alice said Anna has benefitted a lot from SOS programs as they have helped bring her out of her shell. “She looks forward to having her own thing, her own safe space without mom and dad,” she said. “She’s more sociable and she has really enjoyed it.”
