Well Drilling Update - June 2026

Work Completed

Several advancements in the project have been made since the February 2026 update. The project hydrogeologist has finalized the well drilling report and prepared a well protection plan. Well pumps, motors, and pitless adaptors have been installed in PW06, PW07 and PW09. Island Health has issued Source Approval for the new wells, and an engineering consultant has prepared the design and tender specifications for the watermain construction, power, and control equipment. A permit from the Ministry of Transportation and Transit has been received to undertake construction in the roadway, a permit from RDN Parks Services has been received to undertake construction in the park corridor, and a construction permit from Island Health is pending. Work to date is on time and budget.

A public invitation to tender has been posted to invite qualified contractors to submit bids for the construction and commissioning of the watermain, power, and control infrastructure required to bring the new wells into operation.

Next steps

The construction tender is currently scheduled to close at the end of June 2026, and the contract is expected to be awarded in August 2026. After the contract award process is complete and the material procurement phase has commenced, the construction start date will be available and shared with the community, along with an updated budget summary. The new wells are planned to be online and operational prior to the summer of 2027.
