Lions Community Park

As the playground work nears completion in Lions Community Park, we are already getting prepared for construction on a new bike park to begin! The excess soil created from the excavation needed for the playground project will be re-used on site to help create the bike park.

Design work on the park has begun and a concept design is available HERE for your review. Construction work is expected to begin in mid-May and be completed by the end of June, weather depending.

Construction work on the playground and washroom at Lions has been underway since fall 2022 and is nearing completion!

Lots of work has been done so far, including excavation and grading, demolition of the old washroom building, improving drainage, installing concrete curbs and a boulder retaining wall, and installation of new play equipment.

Upcoming work includes installing a new vault toilet washroom building with a storage area, tree planting and site restoration, picnic tables, and a new split rail fence between the parking area and the playground.

Work is ongoing and is expected to be complete and open to the public by the end of May. Please obey all construction fencing and safety signage on site and be aware of any nearby work while visiting the park.

Construction of the Phase 1 improvements in Lions Community Park are scheduled to begin on November 7, 2022 and are expected to be completed in Spring 2023. The playground area will be closed to the public during this time to ensure everyone’s safety. Please be cautious and remain alert to construction activities when using the park.

The work will include the installation of a new playground, new washrooms, drainage improvements, gravel paths, picnic tables and tree plantings.

Since the last project update, work on the Lions Community Park Master Plan has been completed. The final documents can be HERE.

Additionally, we received 26 responses from the community through the Playground Design survey. The results of this survey are posted HERE.

So far we have received 26 responses to the Draft Master Plan and Playground Design survey! Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed. We are very grateful for all of the community feedback we have received so far! This input is incredibly valuable and has guided and informed the creation of a Draft Master Plan for Lions Community Park. The full Draft Master Plan document can be found HERE. The Engagement Summary can be found HERE.

Funding is in place for three phases of park improvements. Based on the engagement results, the Draft Master Plan recommends that these improvements are:

Phase A (2022): New playground and new washroom building

Phase B (2023): Pump track, new storage building, trail connections

Phase C (2026): Baseball diamond improvements

The Draft Master Plan also shows potential future park improvements that were mentioned in the engagement process, but are not currently funded, such as a splash park and off-leash dog area.

Next steps

Results from this survey will guide and inform the design of the playground. Work will also continue on finalizing the Master Plan. Construction of the playground and washroom are anticipated to begin in fall 2022.

As a next step, we are currently working on developing a Master Plan for Lions Community Park based on what we have heard.
