Fanny Bay Salmonid Enhancement Society
Starting out with only 3 eager members, this non-profit society has grown extensively over the years. They are a busy group, committed to monitoring and working on enhancement projects and running part of the Rosewall Creek Hatchery. Egg takes, fry salvages, broom removal, streambank restoration and tree plantings are just a few of the activities that this team organizes and takes part in on a regular basis. In 2011, the Fanny Bay Salmonid Enhancement Society put on their very first “River Never Sleeps Festival” at the Rosewall Hatchery which they run enhancement projects out of. It has been a successful and busy event ever since, bringing the nature-loving community together to learn about and celebrate the rivers that are home to our salmon. Everyone who attends the event gets the rare opportunity to release coho smolts into the river and wish them well on their journey downstream and back. As you can see, these folks do really important work for their community as well as for the salmon. Not to mention, they provide the RDN and the province with very useful surface water quality data!
